WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE? ANY FAVOURITE MUSIC ARTIST?
“I like a lot of music, but mostly indie rock. My favourite band is Pavement. After all these years they still sound great. I also love bands such as Les Savy Fav, Blur, Pulp, The Jicks and a whole swag of other good stuff.”
TELL US SOMETHING YOU LOVE AND SOMETHING YOU HATE.
“I love the feeling inspired. That feeling where you’ve got so many ideas you want to get down on paper, and it all feels fresh and nice. That’s a great space to aim for on a daily basis. I hate negative attitudes. People putting other people down or just being a negative towards life can really be exhausting. I understand we all need to practice a healthy dose of cynicism from time-to-time, but nothing gets done if everything is constantly attacked for no good reason.”
WHAT DOES DESIGN MEAN FOR YOU?
“It means a lot. I worked as a designer for 10 years before I got into Illustration. The two work hand-in-hand and it’s an important relationship to get right. Design is in everything.”
WHICH ARTIST HAS MOST INFLUENCED YOUR STYLE? WHY?
“Adrian Tomine. His ability to tell a story in such simple but well formed, expressive lines still gets me every time I look at it. His New Yorker Covers are breathtaking and his novel Shortcomings is in my top 5 books of all time.”
WHICH IS THE THING THAT YOU USUALLY FIND EASIER TO DO IN YOUR WORKS? AND WHAT ABOUT THE HARDER ONE?
“I have a much easier time drawing women then I do Men. I also struggle drawing cars and plants. Faces take me a lot of effort, but…. I like things that are harder to draw. The more you challenge yourself, the more rewarding drawing becomes. I think that’s a super important thing.”
